Verizon Wireless became a "Blue Chip Partner" to the Penske Racing family at the end of the 2008 racing season. The company started sponsoring the number 12 cars on the NASCAR Nationwide Series and IndyCar Series.
Verizon Championship Racing and Penske have started on a good foot in 2010. Justin Allgaier won the Scotts Turf Builder 300 at Bristol. It was Allgaier's first NNS win.
Allgaier has a standout season in his first full year with the team as he wins the Rookie-of-the-Year title in the Nationwide Series. . Well before he joined Penske Racing as the driver of the team's No. 12 car in the Nationwide Series for 2009.
For Allgaier, moving into stock cars was a bit of a challenge in comparison to the lightweight sprinters he was used to. "The biggest thing was the slower steering of the stock cars," said Allgaier. "Initially it was like driving a truck, but after a few races, I got used to it. One thing that was tougher to get used to was not being able to see the front tires." he said.
The IndyCar Team Consists of Will Power, Helio Castroneves, and Ryan Briscoe. All winners of major events during there driving carriers.
